Rebels Top Agates

David Moonen scored four rushing touchdowns Friday Night to led the Rebels to their 61st consecutive regular season win as the Rebels beat Two Harbors 44-7 in late starting weather delayed contest.

Just minutes before the start of Friday nights Polar Alliance Conference battle a lighting bolt across the sky prompted officials to move both players and fans into the school at Two Harbors and following a lighting show which never produced any rain the game finally started at 8:25 and it saw the Rebels start fast as the Rebels Moonen scored the Rebels first touchdown on a 15 yard run to put MLWR in front 8-0.

Josh Petterson scored on a 63 yard run as the Rebels went ahead 14-0 at the end of the first quarter. Jon Evenson exploded for a 49 yard touchdown run and the Rebels led comfortably 22-0. After the Rebels defense stopped the Agates on four consecutive plays inside their own 7 yard line the Rebels took over and the Agates capitalized as Lucas Kempffer intercepted a Brad Fossum pass and ran it back 15 yards for the touchdown and the only score for the Agates on the night.

Two Harbors then attempted and recovered an onside kick with 44 seconds remaining but the Agates were unable to pick up a first down as the Rebels got the ball back with 14 second left in the half. MLWR ran two consecutive counters and after a huge first down run by Moonen which put the Rebels in Two Harbors territory on their 45 yard line and the counter proved effective again as Moonen broke into the open and ran in from 45 yards out as time expired in the first half.

Moonen added an 12 yard and a 68 yard touchdown runs in the third quarter as the Rebels picked up the 44-7 victory to spoil Two Harbors Homecoming Friday night. Moonen rushed for 202 yards on the night to lead the Rebels offense.

The Rebels move to 7-0 on the season and they will face Duluth Marshall (6-1) in Willow River Wednesday night. The Hilltoppers beat Deer River 41-7 Friday afternoon at home.

The Agates have lost three straight games as their record drops to 4-3 on the season. The Agates will take on the Deer River Warriors (4-3) who have given up 86 points in their last two losses.
