Hunters Stop Greyhounds

The Duluth Denfeld Hunters won the battle over their cross town rival Greyhounds Friday night at Public Schools Stadium as the Hunters picked up their first win of the season and the Greyhounds remain winless as the Hunters  pounded the Greyhounds 56-12.

The Hunters built up a 21 point half time lead and cruised in the second half as the Hunters offense got rolling early on often. The Hunters jumped out to a 13-0 first quarter lead when Conner Behm scored on a 34 yard touchdown run and that was followed up by a 24 yard fumble return for a touchdown by Ben Halverson.

Ben Halverson added his second touchdo9wn of the night in the second quarter when he scored on a 13 yard touchdown run and it was the Hunters going into the break at halftime with a 21-0 lead.

The third quarter saw a flurry of scoring done as the Hunters and the Greyhounds combined for 33 points between the two teams but it was the Hunters have a 42-12 lead after three quarters of play. Nick Malec added touchdown runs of 1 & 2 yards, Connor Behm added his second of game as well ads he scored on  a 4 yard touchdown run.

The Greyhounds Derek Donald scored on a 48 yard touchdown pass from Alex Legarde, and it was Cooper Carlson scoring on a 51 yard breakaway for Duluth East as that was all the points they could muster up Friday night.

Denfeld added two more fourth quarter touchdowns when Greg Gustafson scored on a 1 yard run and Nate Nason scored from 12 yards out to make the final score 56-12 in favor of the Hunters.

The Hunters move to 1-6 on the season and they will face the Magic of Monticello (4-3) next Wednesday night in Monticello. The Magic are coming off a 43-27 loss to Chisago Lakes.

The Greyhounds fall to 0-7 and they will face Buffalo (1-6) at home next Wednesday night. The Bison are coming off a loss to St. Francis 47-21 on Friday night.
