It is never easy to play on the road against Hibbing-Chisholm in girls high school hockey. Year in and year out the Blue Jackets are among the best teams in the state. On Tuesday night, the Cloquet-Esko-Carlton Lumberjacks parlayed three goals in the third period into a 4-1 win.

CEC took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Courtney Esse just 5:05 into the first period with an assist going to Jessie Ryan.

Second period action saw the Blue Jackets even things up when Mia Marturano picked up a rebound goal off a shot by Leah Coughlin at the 3:00 minute mark and the game was dead even at 1-1. Things would stay that way until the third period.

Halverson started her scoring onslaught with a power play goal at 3:51 of the third period on assists from Emily Gustafson and Kristi Konietzko. At 9:09 of the period it was

a goal in a 5-on-5 situation with an assist to Halverson and Kalie Shevich, who was back in the lineup after missing a game with an injury. The Jacks made it 4-1 when Halverson slammed home her third goal of the game on a feed from Kelly Carlson at the 12:35 mark of the period as CEC pulled away to the win.

Nicole Lund was strong between the pipes for CEC, stopping 20 of 21 shots. Her counterpart, Dory Johnson made 39 saves on 43 shots for Hibbing/Chisholm.

With the win, CEC is now 3-3-2 on the season. They will be back in action on Thursday at 7:30 pm when they host Proctor-Hermantown-Marshall in a huge LSC showdown.
