The Cloquet-Esko-Carlton girls hockey team is turning into the local version of the cardiac kids. In the last two games the Jacks have fought to 3-3 overtime ties with a pair of their top rivals. On Tuesday, it was a tie with Grand Rapids/Greenway and on Thursday it was an even more exciting game with the Duluth Northern Stars.

Trailing 3-1 entering the final period, the Jacks got a goal from Jessie Ryan with just 5:36 left in regulation to pull to within a goal. Then, senior forward Courtney Esse rammed home a goal with just 35 seconds remaining in the final period to draw the teams even.

In overtime, it appeared as if the Jacks had won the game on a late shot by Melissa Clark, but the officials ruled the clock had expired leaving the two teams tied at 3-3.

Nikkie Logergren had given Duluth a 1-0 lead in the first period at 9:45, but the Jacks tied the game in the second on a Callie Halverson goal from Kelly Carlson on the power play at 8:31. However, Duluth built a two goal advantage when Rosie Nelson scored at 14:35 and Frankie Bergman scored on the power play with just 12 seconds remaining in the period as the Northern Stars carried the 3-1 lead into the final period.

CEC goalie, Nicole Lund, finished with 34 saves and Paige Turner notched 30 saves for Duluth. The Jacks will be at home Saturday at 1pm against Minnetonka.
