MLA Girls Fall To Eveleth-Gilbert 6-3

Eveleth-Gilbert parlayed a three-goal first period into a 6-3 win over the Moose Lake Area Rebels on Tuesday night in girls high school hockey.

The Golden Bears out short the Rebels 42-24, but MLA goalie Kaitlyn Greene played well in stopping 36 of the 42 shots she faced. Meanwhile, the Rebels put 24 shots on E-G goaltender Vicky Fossland who picked up 21 saves.


In the first period the Golden Bears held a 13-5 shot advantage as they built their lead to 3-1, but the Rebels played a stronger second period and outscored E-G 2-1 to pull to within 4-3 after two periods of play. Eveleth-Gilbert managed to pick up the pace in the final period and outshot the Rebels 17-9 which resulted in two final period goals giving the Golden Bears the road win.


Jackie Granfors notched two goals for the Rebels, while the MLA other goal was scored by Allie Belanger. Maggie Unzen, Shannon Wilson and Granfors also added assists in the game. Granfors finished with two goals and an assist for a three point night.


Jordana Turner led the Golden Bears in scoring with two goals, while Kayla Moe had a goal and a pair of assists.
