The Cloquet Lady Lumberjacks opened the 2009-2010 basketball season Tuesday night at Northwestern in Maple, Wisconsin. The Lumberjacks fought hard, but in the end fell short with a score of 47-38. The Lumberjacks were without Katie Pappas and Kialee Kutter last night, leaving the Lumberjacks with only two players who have had extensive playing time for Cloquet.

“We played really well tonight,” head coach Jeff Ojanen told Northland Sports Online.
“Considering we were missing two starters it was a great game, we had chances, but they beat us in the end…When you’re missing Kutter and Pappas, both girls would have added some offense tonight and that’s exactly what we needed,”
Coach Ojanen added.

The Lumberjacks were paced by junior forward Annabel Morrisroe with 16 points.
Sarah McMillen and Jenna Beaupre each added 8 points for Cloquet.
Claire Rosen and Mary Keller each added 2 points, while Brianna Henagin and Krista Schmitz both finished with one point in the Lumberjack defeat.

Cloquet, after dropping the first game of the season, will be in action again on Thursday night when they face the Duluth East Greyhounds at Duluth East High School.
The Lumberjacks have three more road games following the one at East on Thursday.
Cloquet won’t play their home opener until December 22nd
when they host the Hermantown Hawks.
