CARLTON – Tuesday evening ushered in a new era in girls basketball for Carlton High School. Lisa Johnson, last year’s assistant coach, moved one seat up the bench, taking over the head coaching duties after Coach Dave Battaglia retired last season. Coach Johnson could not have asked for a better start to her career–a 60-15 win over Duluth Marshall.

Carlton jumped out to a 30-8 halftime lead and was never challenged in the 45 point win, with the non-starters playing a large part of the second half. “Everyone played tonight,” Johnson stated. “We were able to work on a few things, we want to try to run with the ball a bit more this year.”

Not only did every player get in the game for the Bulldogs, but every player was able to contribute and get into the scoring column of the record book also. Sarah Aili led all scorers with 13 points, including one from the three point arc.

Others scoring for the Bulldogs included Hallie Raisanen with 11, Katie Bloom 7, Savannah Schramm 7, Alanna Groth 5, Brooke Camps 4, Svetlana Eames 3, and McKinzie Belanger, Rebecca Belich, Lindsey Dahl-Holm, Clarissa Nelson and Tori Zime all with 2 points.

Next, Carlton has an early season test when they host the Chisholm Bluestreaks on Thursday. “We will be able to see where we are at,” Coach Johnson said of the matchup.

Marshall was led by Tarin Headquist with 5 points and Julianna McDonald with 4 points.
