Cloquet Eighth Grade Girls Finish 3rd In Pacesetter Tourney

The Cloquet eighth grade girls finished third out of thirteen teams this Saturday in the “region seven” Pacesetter tournament in Eveleth, Minnesota. The girls are now eligible to advance to the Minnesota Invitational Tournament held at St. Benedicts University, June 13th in St. Cloud.

The girls did an absolutely amazing job,” coach Tyler Korby told NSO. “They worked so hard and definitely deserve to be playing with some of the best eighth grade girls in the state come the middle of June.” Korby continued, “I was proud of the way the girls played; with only six girls, it was very tough.” Coach Andrew Bergeron also said to NSO. “they never complained and gave it there all each and every game.”

Cloquet had an opening round bye in their first contest; the second game saw the girls down Cook County 26-15. In the semi finals, Cloquet fell to Hibbing 29-19. However, they bounced back strong as they defeated Mesabi East 39-30 to capture third place.

Team members include Krista Schmitz, Courtney Thompson, Jordan Hanson, Reilly Kedrowski, Kenzie Rathe, and Morgan Jensen. Makenzi Korby manages the team. This same group of girls along with two freshmen, Carrie Zeadow and Shania Paulson, will play in the ninth grade Pacesetter tournament next weekend in Eveleth.

NSO would like to congratulate the eightth grade girls on their third place finish and wish them good luck this summer at the MIT tournament.
