The 2009 Cloquet golf teams are ready to hit the links in full force now that the weather is warm. The Jacks are looking for a fine season this year. Tom McFarlane coaches the Lumberjack boy golfers and Mary Carey coaches the girls.

The Lady Jacks are returning five letter winners from last season including senior Sydnee Burud Erickson, juniors Bekka Zeadow and Jessica Branning, and sophomores Laura Bakken and Jessica Randall. The Lady Jacks will also have a rookie senior, Ines Horvathova.

“We made good improvements last year,” head coach Mary Carey told Northland Sports Online. “We are hoping for more many more improvements this season.” The girls are excited to get going outside and start playing,” Carey mentioned. “We are hoping for warmer weather and the courses to open soon.” The girls’ season opens April 29th with a Lake Superior Conference meet in Cloquet.

Under McFarlane, the boys golf team is looking to see great improvements in this season as well. Last season, Eric Fryc worked his way into the lineup and surprised several, finishing fourth in the section tournament. “That was a big step up for the program,” head coach Tom McFarlane told NSO. “Hopefully we will continue to get better this season.” Matt Carlson is the assistant coach for the Lumberjacks.

Senior Co-Captains Danny Nelson and Ryan Korby will lead the Lumberjacks; other Lumberjack golfers with varsity experience are juniors Tyler Ryan, Derek Schrecengost, and Clayton Kettlehut. Sophomores include Andrew Castle, Karl Palmquist, David McKinney, Jack McFarlane, and freshman Eric Fryc. The boys first meet is in April at the Pines located in Brainerd.
