Esko Captures Boys & Girls Championships in Section Meet

CLOQUET – The Esko boys and girls cross country teams were both considered
favorites among the Section 7A cross country community. They didn’t disappoint at the section meet on Thursday at the Cloquet Country Club, grabbing both section championships.


The Esko boy’s team battled with other-favorite Eveleth-Gilbert, but the Eskomo runners would come away with the section championship in the end. Jackson Lindquist led the Eskomos, finishing second overall 1.5 seconds behind the individual champion Kieran Scannell from Cook County-Two Harbors. The other top five runners from Esko were Raleigh Goessling who was 7th overall, Adam Eskuri finished 12th, Joey Johnson would finish 16th and Phil Wirtz finished 18th.
Tim Garay and Mac Ryks also finished in the top 40 for Esko.


The Lady Eskomos also faced a stiff battle in the girls Section 7A as they narrowly squeaked out the championship by defeating Cook County-Two Harbors. Marisa Shady paced the Esko girls’ team by finishing 5th overall. Kallen Knutson was the 6th place finisher, Kate Shelerud was 12th, Amanda Bergstedt was 14th, and Rachel Mills would place 18th for the final team total. Molly Meysembourg also finished for the Eskomos.


Other top local finishers include Lindsay Dahl-Holm from Carlton, who finished second overall in the girl’s race, Sarah Chasson from Cromwell was third overall, and Megan Sundstrom from Proctor placed in the top twenty.


On the boys side, local finishers included Matt Welch from Proctor in third, Jordan Smith from Cromwell 4th, and Tommy Rossiter also from Proctor finished in 10th place overall.
