Cross Country Runners to Congregate at Cloquet Thursday

he Cloquet Country Club will be inundated with high school cross country runners Thursday due to the boys and girls cross country Section 7A and 7AA sectional tournaments to be held on Thursday in Cloquet.


The Section 7A sectional meet will feature 22 teams and represent 36 schools, this includes the cooperatively run programs. The Section 7A meet is scheduled to begin at 11 am with the boys race. The girls are scheduled to follow at 11:45 am. Cook County-Two Harbors and Esko go in as the girls’ favorites, while Virginia-MIB, Esko and Eveleth-Gilbert expect success from the boys’ side.


Section 7A teams include Chisholm, Crosby-Ironton, East Central, Esko, Eveleth-Gilbert, Harbor City International, International Falls, Duluth Marshall McGregor, Mesabi East , Mountain Iron-Buhl, Proctor, Virginia, Wrenshall, Albrook-Cotton, Carlton, Cromwell-Floodwood, Deer River-Northland, Cook County-Two Harbors, Greenway-Nashwauk-Keewatin, Moose Lake-Willow River- Barnum, and Lakeview Christian Academy and Cloquet Christian.


The AA meet will begin with the boys running at 2:00 pm and the girls set to begin at 2:45 pm. This meet will represent 19 schools in the section. The top two teams along with the top ten runners will advance to the state tournament. The girls favorite is Grand Rapids, followed by Duluth East and Chisago Lakes Area. The Boys AA meet will feature the favorite Grand Rapids, along with Duluth East and Denfeld.


Section 7AA schools competing are Cambridge, Chisago Lakes Area, Cloquet, Duluth East, Denfeld and Central, Forrest Lake, Hermantown, Hibbing, North Branch, Princeton, St Francis, Elk River-Zimmerman-Spectrum, and Grand Rapids- Big Fork.
