Local Runners Compete @ Mega Meet

The 43rd Annual Mega Meet was held Saturday in Milaca at Stones Throw Golf Club in Milaca Minnesota, where the cross country meet saw 139 boys teams an 118 girls teams in four classes compete for the title in each class. There was 496 boys runners and 661 girls running at the varsity level. The meet also featured divisions in junior varsity as well as each grade level 7th-10th grade.

Stillwater, Hutchinson, Minnehaha Academy, and Long Prairie were the boys winners in the four classes Saturday, while the girls team champions were East Ridge, Monticello, Perham, and Trinity River.

Duluth East finished 21st in the boys 4A division, and East’s top finisher was Keaton Long. the Lumberjacks of Cloquet finished 5th in the 3A boys division and Isaac Boedigheimer finished 11th for Cloquet and Dylan marvel came in 21st overall.

Esko finished 8th in the 2A meet and Proctor was 9th overall. Zach Smith and Jacob Welch of Proctor were 6th and 7th in the 3A race, while Matt Rengo placed 22nd overall.

Duluth Marshall placed 21st and South Ridge was 28th in the boys 1A class. Hanlon Pentti was the Hilltoppers top finishers as he was 26th overall and the Panthers Noah Squires was 56th. Carlton’s Derek Bauer placed 129th and Ben Regis of Wrenshall was 164th.

Phoebe Koski led Duluth east with a 38th place finish in the girls 4A division and the Greyhounds placed 15th as a team. The Lady Lumberjacks of Cloquet finished 13th in the girls 3A class and it was Anja Maijala who finished 7th in 3A.

Kailee Kiminski was 5th in the 2A race as she helped led the Eskomos to a 8th place team finish, while Proctors Larissa Deutch finished 126th overall for the Proctor Rails.

Duluth Marshall finished 17th and Carlton was 24th in class 1A while the South Ridge Panthers took home 5th in the best finish for any local girls team. Gracelynn Otis places 21st overall for the Panthers. Erika Fox of Carlton placed 14th, Ann Kleinschmidt was 28th for Marshall, Shelby Johnson of Lakeview Christian  was 177th and Megan Johnson of Wrenshall was 206th.
