Tuesday night saw the Cloquet Lumberjacks volleyball team face yet another difficult opponent when they traveled to Hermantown to take on the Hawks. The Jacks came out of the gate quick and won the first game, but eventually lost the tight match 3-1 to Hermantown.

The first game saw Cloquet strike early and come away with the 25-13 win. Hermantown would regroup however, and come from behind to claim the next three games by scores of 25-19, 25-19 and 25-18 for the three set victory.

Katie Schulz displayed her versatility by leading the Jacks with 5 ace serves, 12 kills, and 18 digs on the evening. Katie Konietzko was right there also with a 13 kills and a 20 dig effort. Maddie Kiehn finished with 11 kills, Kierra Johnson with 12 kills, and Emily Fossen with 6 kills for Cloquet. Keanna Karulak registered 38 set assists while directing the Lumberjack offense.

Although the Lumberjacks record is 11-14, playing a difficult schedule should help them make a run in the Section 7AA playoffs, which will be announced on Wednesday. Head coach Heidi Anderson likes what she sees out of her young squad, telling NSO, “We have been playing well as of late with our offense getting better with every game.”

Besides taking their last match to four games with a very competitive Hermantown squad, Cloquet dropped close 3-2 decisions to powerhouse programs Esko and Barnum, in addition to winning a 3-1 contest over rival Carlton.

Check back with NSO as we will
post the Section 7AA volleyball seeding results as soon as they are announced.
