Saturday brought the second round of Section 7A girls soccer playoff action to the Northland. Cloquet easily passed through the first round of playoffs due to North Lakes Academy’s forfeit.
This time, with the help of two goals from Emily Johnson, the Jacks won their second round game with a 3-0 victory over Hibbing/Chisholm.

The Jacks started out hot with Johnson scoring in just the third minute when she received a pass from Jesse Ryan and buried it in the back of the net. Cloquet, however, could not score again in the first half despite putting seven shots on goal. The Jacks clung to the 1-0 lead at the break.

Cloquet got an insurance goal nine minutes into the second half when Lena Swander scored on a beautiful crossing pass from Haley Bassett. Johnson would round out the scoring by netting her second goal of the game in the 55th minute, with the assist going to Kelsey Anderson as they cruised to the 3-0 win.

Cloquet net minder Kaitrin Rathe made two second half saves, picking up her 10th shutout of the season. Becca Marturano posted nine saves for the Bluejackets on the day.

With the win, the #1 seeded Lumberjacks advance to the Section 7A semi-finals and will host Hermantown at 5:00pm on Tuesday. The winner will advance to the section finals and face the winner of the Esko/Carlton vs. Duluth Denfeld game.
