The CEC Lumberjacks boys soccer team saw their season and playoff run come to an absolutely heartbreaking end Saturday, losing on the road to Chisago Lakes 6-5 in a shootout.

Cameron Bouwens put Chisago Lakes on the board first by netting the only goal of the first half in the 18th minute.

CEC came out strong in the second half and their efforts were rewarded when Tyler Goebel scored in the 57th minute, tying the game at 1-1. The Jacks efforts continued and they took the lead in the 66th minute when Nick Anderson scored with Jake Stainbrook getting the assist.

The Lumberjacks were less than a minute away from celebrating the victory when, with the help of an assist from fellow senior Tyler Kari, Bouwens came up big for the Wildcats by scoring his second goal and tying the game at two apiece.

After two scoreless overtimes, the game went to a shootout. Tyler Goebel, Derek Schrecengost and Josiah Barrett scored for CEC. However, Bryan Erickson, Bouwens, Dominic Novac matched their efforts setting the stage for David Rau’s game winning shootout goal for the Wildcats.

With the loss, the Lumberjacks finish their 2009 campaign with a record of 9-9-1. CEC will graduate nine seniors.
NSO would like to congratulate these athletes on their season and wish them well in the future.
