Lately, describing the Esko-Carlton girls as “dominating” may be an understatement.
They have scored 31 goals in their past three games, while giving up only two. Saturday’s Section 7A quarterfinal matchup with Two Harbors was no exception, with the hosting Eskomos scoring five goals in the first half on the way to a 5-1 quarterfinal victory.

The Eskomos got the scoring started quickly when, less than three minutes into the game, Jill Tomczak scored on a pass from Amanda Bergstedt off of a Kate Marquis corner kick. Savannah Schramm put Esko-Carlton up 2-0 when she scored in the 21st minute, with Tess Mattson getting the assist. Four minutes later, Amanda Bergstedt shook the defense and buried a Sarah Juntunen pass in the back of the net and Esko-Carlton was in control at 3-0.

The Eskomos fourth goal came off a beautiful play when Bergstedt scored on a header off of another Marquis corner kick with 13:11 remaining in the half.

Hillary Anderson closed out the first half, scoring the Eskomos fifth goal of the game with a mere three seconds left on the clock, sending Esko-Carlton into the break up 5-0.

Two Harbors added a second half goal but it was way too little, way too late to matter as the Eskomos cruised to the 5-1 win.

Amanda Bergstedt led the Eskomos with two goals and an assist. Emily Johnson made all 5 saves for Esko-Carlton, earning
her fifth
shutout of the season.
Lucy Bukowski made 21 saves on 26 shots for the Agates.

With the win the #2 seed Eskomos advance to the Section 7A semi-finals and will host #3 seed Duluth Denfeld on Tuesday. The winner will advance to the 7A section finals on Thursday.
