The Cloquet football team gained a share of the Sea Range Conference lead on Wednesday night with a 49-20 win on the road in Proctor. Cloquet’s win, coupled with Hermantown’s upset victory over Ashland, has caused a three-way log jam at the top of the conference between Cloquet, Hermantown and Ashland.

Anthony Hudson, who finished with 144 yards rushing for the Jacks, got Cloquet on the board on their first drive by scoring on an eight yard run. Thomas Rogers tacked on the extra point for a 7-0 Cloquet lead.

The Rails cut the gap to 7-6 when Jordy Carlson traipsed in from the 17 yard line, but a botched extra point kick kept the Jacks in the lead.

Cloquet went up 14-6 when Tyler Tollerud found Corbin Morse for a four yard scoring strike and Rogers added the extra point kick to make it 14-6 for Cloquet still in the first quarter.

In the second quarter the Rails got back-to-back scores from Carlson and they also got a Ryan McCarthy two-point conversion on the first score, but again they missed the extra point kick on the second touchdown of the second quarter leaving them with a 20-14 lead.

Before the half ended it was Tollerud finding tight end Thomas Rogers in the end zone for a 10-yard touchdown pass and Rogers kicked the extra point giving Cloquet a 21-20 halftime lead which would stand up until the Jacks went on a 28-0 run in the final quarter.

After a scoreless third quarter the Jacks dismantled the Rails in the final stanza by starting with a 12 yard touchdowns pass from Tollerud to Corbin Morse. Next up it was a Hudson seven yard run, then a Matt Horman 18 yard fumble return for a touchdown and finally a 50 yard touchdown dash from Tollerud. Rogers nailed the extra point on all four scores as Cloquet won the game going away.

Tollerud had a strong game going 13-for-25 in the passing department which was good for 183 yards in the air and Hudson added 144 rushing yards for the Jacks who are now 6-1 overall and 5-1 in the Sea Range Conference.
