WILLOW RIVER – It was a night Austin Jacobson may not ever forget. The senior running back for the Moose Lake – Willow River Rebels scored five touchdowns in the first half and then was named homecoming king Wednesday night. Michael Unzen was also named homecoming king while Rachel Mach and Peggy Stephan were crowned homecoming queens during the ceremony.


Jacobson started his scoring frenzy in the first quarter when he scored on a 15 yard touchdown run, the extra point was good and the Rebels would lead 7-0. Jacobson scored again a few minutes later, this time on a 15 yard touchdown run extending the Rebels led 14-0. Braham countered with an interception return for a touchdown to cut the Rebels lead to 14-8. However, on the ensuing kickoff it was Jacobson scoring his third touchdown of the 1st quarter on an 84 yard return. The point after was good and the Rebels led 21-8 after one quarter.


The Rebels continued to click offensively in the second quarter as Shane Rehbein got in on the scoring action with a one yard touchdown run, pushing their lead to 28-8. The ML-WR was not done in the 1st half however, as Hayden Hoffman hit Jacobson with a short pass out of the backfield.
The play highlighted Jacobson’s nifty running ability as he broke tackles and scampered 65 yards on the touchdown reception giving the Rebels a 35-8 lead. Hoffman and Jacobson were not done connecting one more time right before halftime on a 12 yard scoring pass. This extended the Rebels lead to 41-8 at the break.


Michael Unzen scored the first second half touchdown busting free on a run of 15 yards. The Rebels eighth touchdown of the night was scored by Nick Kenemore on a 7 yard run, allowing the Rebels to put the game in running time, leading 54-8. The Bombers scored two late touchdowns to close the final margin to 54-22.


Jacobson lead the Rebels with 166 yards rushing on 12 carries, Unzen finished with 97 yards rushing and Rehbein added 56 yards on 10 carries. Moose Lake – Willow River improves to 7-0 on the season and captures the Polar Alliance White Championship. The Rebels will be in action next Wednesday as they take on their long-time rival, the Esko Eskomos.
