Last week the Cromwell Cards suffered from a severe case of fumblitis. This week the Cards did a much better job of hanging on to the football causing them tot come away with a 35-26 win over Isle in come-from-behind fashion.

The Cards gave up back-to-back touchdown runs in the first quarter and fell behind 12-0. First, it was Cole Oswald scoring on a touchdown run and then it was Neil Karg hauling in a Wesley Oswald pass. The Cards stuffed Isle on both extra points to keep the game manageable.

Before the end of the first quarter, Jordan Suhonen scored on a one-yard touchdown plunge to cut the lead to 7-6 and then Jordan Smith tacked on the extra point kick to further cut into the lead at 12-7.

In the second quarter the Cards picked up a pair of touchdowns as Jordan Smith scored on a five-yard run and Michael Hedin crashed in from the four-yard line. After failing on a two-point conversion on Smith’s score, the Cards did tack on a two-point conversion after Hedin’s touchdown when Suhonen crashed into the end zone to make it 21-12 at halftime.

Chris Blood scored for Isle in the third quarter to narrow the lead to 21-18, but again they were stopped on the conversion attempt.

Cromwell answered in the third when Suhonen slipped in from the four-yard line making it 27-18 entering the final quarter.

Hedin added his second touchdown of the day on a three-yard run and Smith added the two point conversion as the Cards went up 35-18. The scoring ended when Cole Oswald scored for Isle late in the game and Blood added the two point conversion.

The win improved Cromwell’s record to 5-1 overall and 1-1 in the Great Northern East.
