Barnum Sweeps Floodwood, Remains Undefeated

The Barnum Bombers continued their excellence on the volleyball court Thursday night as they downed the Floodwood Polar Bears in three straight games at Barnum High School in a Polar League matchup.

The Bombers and the Polar Bears battled through three tough games with all being decided by a total of eleven points. Barnum won the first game 25-20, the second game was 25-23, and in the final game, it was Barnum winning 25-21.

“It was a tough battle tonight, we had to fight for everything,” Head Coach Corina Newman told Northland Sports Online. “Floodwood is a good team and they don’t quit, it was a fight in each game.” Newman would add.

Katrina Newman led the Bombers with 12 kills and 14 defensive digs. Jenna Zymslony had 6 kills and 8 digs. Jessica Newman finished with 21 set assists and 7 digs for the Bombers, Karianna Duesler finished with 10 digs and Jamiee Wickstrom would have 2 blocks in the victory.

Barnum improves to 13-0 on the season; they will be tested this Saturday as they play in the Duluth East Volleyball Tournament. Teams participating in the Invitational Tournament include Duluth East, North Branch, Moose Lake-Willow River, Forest Lake, Minneapolis Washburn, Anoka, Washburn Wisconsin, Grand Rapids, Minneapolis South, Hill Murray, Cambridge, and Barnum.

With the loss, Floodwood falls to 8-5 overall on the season. The Polar Bears will be in action again Next Tuesday night as they host Silver Bay in a Polar League contest.
