Upon entrance to Friday’s game against the
Onamia Panthers, the Carlton Bulldogs knew a tough battle was to come and one of the keys to success would be minimizing turnovers. However, the Bulldogs could not keep possession of the ball and lost the battle 32-13.

The Bulldogs had three first half turnovers setting them back 20-7 at the break. Mistakes and turnovers would continue to plague Carlton in the second half as the Panthers pulled away for the 32-13 win.

“I thought we moved the ball very well tonight, but every time we had a drive going we did something to end it,” head coach Scott Battaglia told Northland Sports Online. “The game was a lot closer then the score indicated…Christan Lawrence had a great game scoring five touchdowns and we couldn’t contain him,” Battaglia added.

Lawrence would account for all of the Panthers scoring. He five touchdowns on runs of 10, 5, and 1 yard(s) in the first half. He then continued to add two touchdown runs of 70 and 45 yards in the second half. Lawrence also ran in a two point conversation.

The Bulldogs got on the board when Zach Anderson scored on a 30 yard touchdown run in the second quarter. Chase Jokinen caught a 50 yard touchdown pass from Allan Davis in the third quarter for the second Bulldog score.

With the loss, the Bulldogs fall to 1-2 on the season. They will travel to Mesabi East next week to face the Giants who are 2-2. The Panthers improve to 2-2 on the season and are in Grand Marais next week to play the Vikings.
