The Cloquet track team competed at Hermantown on Thursday with the girls finishing second and the boys taking home a third place finish. The Lady Lumberjack’s displayed good team depth while relying on strong leadership from their experienced seniors. The boys, who also have several veteran returners, were strong in the relays.

The girls were led by seniors Jes Vork and Taylor Sautbine, both of whom participated in the State track and field meet last year. Vork won the 100m with a time of 13.3 seconds and the high jump by clearing 5’2”. Sautbine continued her impressive hurdling by winning the 100m hurdles with a time of 16.6. She also won the 300m hurdles by pounding out an impressive 51.6. The girls showed depth with an impressive showing in the 300m hurdles with strong performances by freshman newcomers Mikaela Dunaisky and Caitlin Lilly. The girls’ 4X200m (Liz Litke, Taylor Sautbine, Kaitlin Proulx, and Kialee Kutter) relay team also took home top honors.

The boys had a strong showing from their relay teams as well, winning the 4x800m and the 4x100m. Their 4x200m relay team was also well on their way to victory when a mix up in the final exchange zone foiled their bid for victory. Cloquet senior Nolen Dokken , who will play football for Bemidji State next year, won the 300m hurdles with a time of 43.3. Dokken, who began hurdling last year, has been a quick learner and is expected to contend for a conference title in the event.

Cloquet is back in action next week when they travel to Proctor on Tuesday and Cambridge on Friday to compete in the Norm Ayen Invitational.
