The Barnum Bombers girls volleyball team needed a huge rally on Tuesday night when they traveled to Grand Marais to face Cook County for the second time in three days. Barnum downed Cook County in the championship match this weekend at the Bomber tournament held in Barnum.

The Bombers fell behind Tuesday when the Vikings jumped out in front early and won the first two games 25-22 and 25-19. Barnum would then rally, coming back to take game three 25-18. Game four was also close with the Bombers winning 25-20. With the match tied at 2-2, the Bombers took hold and crushed Cook County 15-1 in the final game of the match.

“The first two games the girls didn’t play as a team,” head coach Corina Newman told Northland Sports Online. “The third game they finally started playing as a team again…We struggled all weekend in our tournament also but things finally came back into place in the third game tonight,” Newman stated.

Katrina Newman paced the Bombers by recording 18 kills and 20 digs. Jenna Zmyslony added 13 kills, 4 ace serves and 15 digs for the Bombers. Jessica Newman had 31 set assists and Karianna Duesler added 15 digs in the Barnum win.

The Bombers remain unbeaten on the season as their record improves to 11-0 overall. They will play at home on Thursday night when they host the Two Harbors Agates.
