Moose Lake-Willow River Falls to Jaguars in Volleyball

Monday night in Moose Lake was an eventful one when the Moose Lake-Willow River volleyball team took the floor against a very good Hinckley-Finlayson team. The game would end in a great battle in which the Jaguars downed the Rebels 3-2.

During the game, Moose Lake–Willow River junior Sheenagh Caroline set the school dig record. In addition, Caroline was recognized this past weekend at the North Branch Tournament for reaching 1,000 career digs. She finished the weekend with 1001 digs, only four short of the school record. However, tallying 20 digs in Monday’s match against the Jaguars, she would break the previous reacord, ending the evening with 1021 career digs.


The two teams traded wins back and forth all night. Hinckley-Finlayson won the first game 25-23 and MLWR would win the second by the same score. Th Jaguars easily captured game three with a score of 25-15. Then, trailing 2-1 in the match, the Rebels fought back and won the 4th game 25-15. In the final game the Jaguars ended up winning 15-11 and take the match 3 games to 2.


Sheenagh Caroline led the Rebels with 9 Kills, 5 ace serves, and 20 digs on the night. Maddy Adamczak had 7 kills and 17 digs. Miranda Jacobson had an impressive 21 set assists and Katie Youngberg added 20 digs for the Rebels.


Emily Schwantke paced the Jaguars with 15 Kills and two ace serves. Kim Scullard had 35 set assists in the victory and Ashley Schwantke added three ace serves and three blocks for Hinckley-Finlayson.


With the loss, the Rebels fall to 2-8 on the season. They will be in action again this Tuesday in Cromwell and Thursday at Carlton.
