Cloquet-Esko-Carlton nearly swept singles play on Monday against Grand Rapids in high school tennis, but the lack of doubles wins allowed the Thunderhawks to take a narrow 4-3 win over the Jacks.

Kelsey Collier of CEC fell at #1 singles to Sarah Stejskal 6-0, 6-1, but that would be the only loss of the day in singles for the Lumberjacks. Alicen Johnson at #2, Savanna Ellena at #3 and Michaela Houser at #4 singles all came up winners against their Thunderhawk opponents. All the singles wins for CEC were tightly played but perhaps the closest match came when Houser hung on to defeat Chanelle Snyder 1-6, 6-1, 10-8 in a tie breaker.

Where the Jacks struggled the most was in doubles where they did not win a match. Just one CEC win in doubles would have given them a 4-3 win instead of the reversal of fortunes.

Savannah Hanson and Reilly Kedrowski of CEC dropped a 6-1, 6-3 match at #1 doubles to Marisa Teems and Steph Mackey.

At #2 doubles it was Megan Bitter and Courtney Praul of Grand Rapids defeating the Jacks duo of Kalie Shevich and Kara Cresap 6-2, 6-1.

Finally at #3 doubles the CEC team of Lora Chalice and Stephanie Campbell fell 6-2, 6-4 to Karley Ridgeway and Stacy Hamman.

The Jacks are schedule to be in action at Superior today at 4pm.
