Thursday’s NSO Area Volleyball Recap

Thursday brought some great volleyball matchups to the NSO area. While the Carlton-Esko rivalry was the title bout, several other matches provided terrific undercards.


Playing before a packed gym in Carlton, the Esko Eskomos won the latest installment of the Carlton-Esko volleyball rivalry with a 4-1 victory. The Bulldogs started out well by winning game one 25-18. Esko regrouped, however, and took the next three games 25-23, 25-23, and 25-19. Kayla Handevidt and Keely Deadrick led the Eskomos with 22 kills and 36 set assists respectfully. Tayler Carpenter had 9 kills and Sarah Aili tallied 8 kills and 5 digs for the Bulldogs.


Against Lakeview Christian Academy, the Falcons won 25-16, 25-23 and 26-24 to improve their record to 2-2. Abby Otis led the offensive attack for AlBrook with nine kills and five blocks, while Chelsea Hendrickson added 19 set assists.


Barnum remained undefeated at 6-0 after beating McGregor 25-7, 25-4 and 25-13. Katrina Newman led the Bomber efforts with 11 Kills. As a group, Barnum had 17 ace serves.


Cloquet put together three nice games of 25-21, 25-15 and 25-9 to top Superior in an LSC matchup at home. Katie Shultz had a huge night, showing her all around abilities with 8 kills, 4 ace serves, and 14 digs. Katie Konietzko had 9 kills 12 set assists and 9 digs for the Lumberjacks.


The Cromwell Cardinals traveled to Silver Bay and made the trip worthwhile, leaving town with the four game win. Cromwell dropped the first game 25-23, then took the next three 25-16, 25-23, and 26-24. Emily Hendrickson and Lisa Peterson had 8 and 7 digs respectfully for the Cards.


Moose Lake – Willow River was on the road as well, traveling to Floodwood. The Rebels came close but could not get the win, losing in five games by scores of 25-19, 25-17, 20-25, 27-25 and 11-15. Sheenagh Caroline led the Rebels with 17 kills, 14 digs, and 5 ace serves.


Wrenshall picked up its first win of the season, taking the four game match from Two Harbors. The Wrens won with scores of 25-12, 29-27, 10-20 and 25-20. LaRena Evazich went an amazing 100% serving on the night, going 23 for 23 with 7 ace serves.
