The Cromwell Cardinals came through with a hard fought victory Tuesday night as they defeated the Floodwood Polar Bears by a 3-2 margin at the Cromwell High School. Coming off of the tough stretch last week, the Cardinals regrouped to gain the big Polar League win.

After winning their first two matches of the season, Cromwell fell last week. They were first defeated by the Esko Eskomos on Tuesday, then by Barnum on Thursday. The Cardinals then struggled in a weekend tournament in Ogilvie, losing three matches and tying two.

Even after a series of losses, the Cardinals regrouped for Tuesday’s Floodwood match. After coming from behind and winning the first game, they dropped the next two games and battled back for the win. The Cards defeated Floodwood by the scores of 25-21, 17-25, 18-25, 25-20, and 15-13 in the last game of the match.

Ashley Colman led Cromwell with eleven kills and seven digs. Emily Hendrickson would finish with six digs in the Cromwell victory, while Arianna Korpela finished with eleven set assists in the Cromwell win.

Cromwell, with the win, improves to 3-5-2 overall on the season. Floodwood falls to 2-2 overall. Cromwell is next in action on Thursday as they travel to Silver Bay to face the Mariners.
Floodwood will be at home on Thursday as they host Moose Lake-Willow River.
