Tuesday night brought a flurry of volleyball action with seven local teams competing for victories. The most competitive and exciting matchup, by far, happened when Cromwell hosted Floodwood.

Cromwell won a hotly contested match at home on Tuesday in comeback fashion, winning in five games by scores of 25-21, 17-25, 18-25, 25-20 and 15-13. The Cards were led by Ashley Collman with 11 kills and Ariana Korpela’s 11 set assists.

In other action, Barnum got the home win over Silver Bay. The Bombers jumped out early with a first game score of 25-6. Then, they finished the game off with scores of 25-14, and 25-19. Katrina Newman displayed both her offense and defensive skills with 15 kills and 12 digs. Jessica Newman added 10 digs to go with her 26 set assists to lead the Bombers in the win.

In a tune up for their huge home match with Esko, the Carlton Bulldogs defeated Two Harbors in three games by scores of 25-23, 25-14, and 25-16. Carlton was led by Sara Aili and Tayler Carpenter with 8 and 6 kills respectively.

Cook County traveled to Wrenshall and while the young Wrens team was competitive, they dropped three games to the Vikings. Christina Nelson led Cook County with 10 kills in the 25-11, 25-20, and 25-22 three game victory.

By topping Moose Lake-Willow River in three games, the Esko Eskomos will take a four game winning streak into their Thursday contest with Carlton. The Eskomos won by 25-10, 25-17, and 25-19 scores. They were led by Kayla Handevidt, who had 12 kills and Keely Deadrick’s 24 set assists. Katie Youngberg led ML-WR with 15 digs while Sheenagh Caroline added 10 kills.

Proctor played host to Hibbing and saw a very good squad leave town with the three game match win by scores of 25-10, 25-5, and 25-16.
