Thursday night’s boys soccer game between Hermantown and Cloquet-Esko-Carlton could not have been much closer. The Hawks ended up winning the match 1-0 in the second overtime, but it was a game that saw both teams get chances and strong goaltending.

Cloquet-Esko-Carlton continued playing without their starting goalie, which meant that Jared Weeks got the starting nod for the injured Derek Schrecengost. Weeks did not disappoint as he finished with 14 saves.

On the other side of the pitch it was Andrew Samburg finishing with a shutout in goal, while making 8 saves in an equally outstanding effort.

After playing scoreless through regulation and the first overtime, the Hawks scored the game winning goal in the second overtime when Brandon Crusan punched a shot past Weeks in the 87th minute.

The win gives the Hawks an impressive 7-0 overall record and a 4-0 record in the Lake Superior Conference. The Lumberjacks fall to 3-2-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the conference.
