It took an overtime period, but the Cloquet-Esko-Carlton boy’s soccer team finally got the job done on Tuesday night when they beat Eveleth-Gilbert 2-1.

The game was split evenly on the pitch as both sides had their chances, but mainly from longer distances throughout regulation. Both defenses were stout and the Jacks got a solid performance in goal from netminder Jared Weeks who made 10 saves. E-G goalie, Alex Smolich, was also strong with 9 saves.

After a scoreless regulation, the Lumberjacks picked up 2 goals in the first overtime session to gain a 2-0 lead. Nick Anderson scored in the 83rd minute and it was Hunter Leon placing a goal just a minute later for the Jacks. Anderson’s goal was assisted by Jake Stainbrook and Leon’s tally was assisted by Anderson.

In the second overtime session, the Golden Bears responded with a goal from Andrew Ekman in the 89th minute, but that was all they could muster against the Lumberjacks.
