The Barnum Bombers girls volleyball team continued with their fast start this season as they downed the Panthers of Onamia on Tuesday night, sweeping them 3 games to 0. The Bombers have three straight wins to start off their season.

The Bombers opened with a 3-1 victory over Rush City, followed by a close 3-2 win over the Cloquet Lumberjacks. The match with Cloquet was back and forth and very close until the end.

On Tuesday, the Bombers downed Onamia 3-0 with scores of
25-19, 25-15 and 25-21. Katrina Newman led the Bombers on Tuesday night with 17 kills, Jenna Zmyslony added 7 kills and Sammi Parker added 4. Zymslony led the Bombers with 11 digs. Newman would add 9 digs, while Candice Paulson and Jess Newman each added 5.

“We have been playing well early on this year,” head coach Corina Newman told Northland Sports Online. “We have a lot of experience that has been paying off so far and it’s shown with the close win over Heidi’s squad.” (Heidi Anderson is the coach of the Cloquet Lumberjacks and a friend of Newman’s.)

Jessica Newman led the Bombers with 27 set assists and Paulson would have 2 for Barnum. Serving aces came from Zymslony and Paulson as well in the victory over Onamia. The Bombers are back in action Thursday as they host Cromwell.
