Laine’s 23 Points Lead Lumberjacks To 76-30 Win

PROCTOR- Adam Laine scored 19 first half points to ensure the Lumberjacks their first victory of the season as the Lumberjacks beat the Proctor Rails by a score of 76-30 at Proctor High School on Friday night.


The Lumberjacks scored the first 11 points of the game as Cloquet took the early lead and never looked back to picked up the Lake Superior Conference win. Laine scored eight of the first 11 points for Cloquet and Dillon Johnson added a three pointer to build the early lead.


Cloquet continued to extend their lead in the first half as Cloquet continued to pound the ball inside and Laine used his size advantage to help the Lumberjacks a 27 point 44-17 lead at the break.


Cloquet came out strong again in the second half as Laine and Dillon Johnson combined to score the first seven points of the second half. Zach Gerlach added four more quick points and the Lumberjacks continued to add to their lead.


Newcomer Aaron Johnson made his Lumberjack debut Friday night as the 6’8” senior transfer student had two spectacular dunks down in the low post as Cloquet outscored the Rails 32-13 in the second half as the Lumberjacks picked up the 46 point win.


The Lumberjacks were led by Adam Laine who finished with 23 points; Aaron Johnson added 9, Dillon Johnson and Gerlach both added 8 points, and it was Marquez Evans and Jake Bushey each adding 7 to lead Cloquet.


The Rails were led by Travis Carlson who finished with 11 points on the night; Carlson was a perfect 7-7 from the free throw line Friday night as well. Andrew Hendrickson added 8 points for the Rails, Alex Greene chipped in with 4 and it was Jordan Carey with 3 points for Proctor.


The Lumberjacks improve to 1-2 on the season and they will face the Hermantown Hawks on Tuesday night at Cloquet High School which will be not only a big early season conference battle, but also a big section game for both teams.


The Rails drop their fourth straight game Friday night in the loss to Cloquet and will look to get back in the win column next Friday when the Rails will host Greenway.
