Hawks Go 2-0 On The Early Season

The Hermantown Hawks won their second basketball game of the season Tuesday night as the Hawks defeated the Proctor Rails by a score of 81-36 in this Lake Superior Conference match-up.


The Hawks jumped out fast Tuesday night and built a 51-18 point half time lead and were never tested again as the Hawks move to 2-0 on the season. Hermantown had knocked off the Esko Eskomos last week to open their season.


“On offense, we really played well and moved the ball nicely” Head Coach Michael Pothast told Northland Sports Online. “Defensively we did a nice job of pressuring the ball and causing turnovers.” Pothast added. The Hawks defense had 14 steals in the win Tuesday night.


Kevin Folman and Kole Zuidmulder led the Hawks with 14 points on the night; Folman also connected on three long range bombs in the victory for the Hawks. Spencer Johnson added 13 points on the night and Justin Brendon finished with 8 points for Hermantown.


The rest of the Hermantown scoring was Parker Anderson, Thomas Madison, and Cade Zacharias all with 6 points, Zach Goplin added 4, Lane Wargin added 3, while it was Kale Olson, Alex Vitto, Grant Borndahl, all adding 2 points and Alex Comstock finished with 1 point on the night.


Henry Habermann finished with 15 points to lead the Rails Tuesday; Habermann had 2 three pointers on the night as well for Proctor. Travis Carlson finished with 8 points, while it was Joe Thiry who scored 7, Austin Tesser and Paul Hegstrom both added 2 points for the Rails.


The Hawks will look to go 3-0 on Thursday night when they will travel to North Branch where they will face the Vikings in a Section 7AAA match-up. The Hawks will then face the Cloquet Lumberjacks next Tuesday night in Cloquet in another section match-up.


The Rails, who fell to 1-3 on the season look to rebound on Friday when they will face the Cloquet Lumberjacks, The Rails will close out their pre-holiday schedule next Friday night when they will host Greenway.
