The CEC girls hockey team struggled to hang on to a 1-0 lead and fell 2-1 in overtime to the Mirage of Proctor-Hermantown on Thursday night in Hermantown.

After a scoreless first period, CEC notched the first goal of the game at 4:19 of the second period when Mikayla Baker scored with an asssist to Carley Esse. That goal would stand up until 11:55 of the third period when Skylar Gunderson slammed home a goal for PH with Reilly Fawcett assisting to make it 1-1.

Through two periods CEC had a 21-11 shot edge, but Kylie Hommerding kept the Jacks off the board other than the goal by Baker.

P-H picked up the pace of their play in the third period and outshot CEC to the tune of 14-7 and the only goal of the period was by Gunderson.

In overtime the game was decided when Jillayne Gilbert scored a power play goal with Gunderson and Gunderson adding the assists and the Mirage came away with a 2-1 victory.

CEC netminder Katie Beckman had a strong night with 27 saves on 29 shots, while Hommerding finished with 32 saves on 33 shots to pick up the LSC victory.
