Cromwell Wins Final Regular Season Game

The Cromwell Cardinals outlasted the Wrenshall Wrens Wednesday night at home in a Great Northern Nine Man Conference battle as the Cardinals were looking to assure a first round bye in the Section 5 9-man playoffs beginning on Tuesday night.


The Cardinals used a balanced attack Wednesday to the Wrens by a final score of 22-12. Cromwell built up a 14-6 lead at halftime and went on to the 10 point victory at home Wednesday night.


Joe Couture scored on a 9 yard touchdown run for Cromwell and Mitch Tally added a 21 yard touchdown run, which accounted for the Cardinals 14 first half points. Jack Dolter scored the Wrens lone first half touchdown on a 2 yard run late in the first quarter.


Austin Pfistner scored on an 8 yard touchdown reception from Jared Hutar; Hutar connected with Couture on the two point conversion and Cromwell led 22-6 early in the fourth quarter. The Wrens managed a late touchdown when Dustin Shelton scored on a 36 yard touchdown pass from Dolter to cut the final margin to 10 points.


The victory moves the Cardinals record to 4-4 overall on the season and Cromwell will host a first round Section 5 nine man playoff game on Tuesday night. The Wrenshall Wrens fall to 1-7 on the season and they will be on the road as the Playoffs open Tuesday night.
