WILLOW RIVER- Normally the Moose Lake-Willow River Rebel offense has been quick strike big play runs by Jake Disterhaupt. Tonight Disterhaupt had big strike runs, but it was a complete game plan tonight as the Rebels used a timely air attack to knock off the Aitkin Gobblers by a score of 42-0 Wednesday night in Willow River.

The Rebels Tony Adamczak finished 8-11 passing Wednesday night for 188 yards and two touchdowns as the Rebels captured their six consecutive Polar League Conference title and won their 54th consecutive regular season game.

“We aired it out a little more than usual tonight,” Head Coach Dave Louzek “We are now looking forward to the playoffs and moving into the post season.” Louzek added “We won our sixth conference title tonight but most kids didn’t even know that as we are focused on the section title.”

The Rebels got things going in the first quarter, after Jake Disterhaupt had a 95 yard kickoff return called back because of a penalty, the Rebels put together a slow methodical drive down the field and a Michael Pender 1-yard touchdown run gave the Rebels an early 7-0 lead. The Rebels soon made it 14-0 as Rebels quarterback Tony Adamczak connected with Pender on a 40 yard touchdown pass and the Rebels led 14-0 after one quarter.

The Rebels made it 20-0 when BJ Young scored on a 40 yard punt return for a touchdown and Adamczak threw his second touchdown pass of the night. This time he hit Disterhaupt in the flat and Disterhaupt broke three tackles and raced into the end zone for the touchdown and a 27-0 lead at halftime.

Michael Pender scored his third touchdown of the game again it was a 1 yard touchdown run as Moose Lake-Willow River led 34-0 after three quarters. The Rebels added one more touchdown in the fourth quarter as Alex Kennemore scored on a 1 yard touchdown run and the Rebels added two more on the two point conversion for the 42-0 shutout victory.

The Rebels close out the season with an 8-0 record and their sixth straight season with the same 8-0 record. The Rebels will open the Section 7AA playoffs at home on Tuesday night and without any surprises the Rebels should host the Two Harbors Agates. The Gobblers finish 1-7 overall and they will open Section 7AAA playoffs on Tuesday on the road.
