Crosby-Ironton sophomore running back Daniel Hudrlik scored five touchdowns Wednesday night as the Rangers topped the Esko Eskomos by a final score of 54-30 at Bromberg Field in Cloquet in a non-conference contest.

The Rangers went up 24-0 in the first quarter on two Hudrlik touchdown runs; the first of the game, a 51 yard run, and the second a 23 yard run on the second play following an Eskomos fumble. Zach Olander dashed in from 20 yards out to give the Rangers a nice 24-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Hudrlik scored his third touchdown of the game to start the second quarter scoring as the Rangers went in front 32-0. Esko’s lone score in the first half followed when Jared Mattson caught a 51 yard touchdown pass from Marc Peterson to cut the score to 32-8. The Rangers added one more touchdown in the first half as they would lead 38-8 at the break.

Esko fought back to start the third quarter Wednesday as Ryan Holte score on a 25 yard touchdown pass from Marc Peterson and Peterson connected later in third with Aaron Olson that cut the Rangers lead down to 38-24. With the Eskomos cutting the lead down to 12 Hudrlik scored his fourth touchdown of the game on a 5 yard run and the Rangers led 46-24 at the end of three quarters.

Esko cut the lead down to 46-32 on a Reid Borchardt touchdown run but hat would be a close as the Eskomos would come as the Rangers Hudrlik scored his fifth touchdown on a 14 yard run to make the score 54-30 and that’s how the game ended Wednesday night.

The loss drops the Eskomos to 6-2 on the season overall and they will have a bye in the first round of the Section 7AAA playoffs. They will host the winner of Greenway Nashwauk-Keewatin next Saturday afternoon.

The Rangers move to 7-1 on the season and they will have the number one seed in the Section 6AA playoffs which begin on Tuesday night. The Rangers will host Long Prairie-Grey Eagle in the opening round of the section playoffs in Crosby.
