Thunder Baseball Player Signs With UM-Crookston

Current Fond du Lac Thunder baseball standout Travis Magdzas has committed to play baseball beginning next year for the University of Minnesota-Crookston. Magdzas, a 2011 graduate of Duluth Denfeld High School and current Thunder player will play his last two years of eligibility with Crookston.


Magdzas was a four year letter winner and three year starter for the Hunters and also was the team captain for two seasons. He was selected to the District 8 American Legion All Star Game in 2011. Magdzas was also a three year letter winner in football.


Magdzas led West Duluth American Legion Post #71 with a .523 batting average and had an on base percentage of .691. He will be the first FDLTCC baseball player to advance and play baseball at a four year college.


Magdzas played catcher for the Thunder a season ago out of necessity, but he primarily will play 2nd base or outfield for the Thunder this season. Magdzas is also known as a utility player who can and will play more than one position.


Magdzas recorded the first double in Thunder Baseball school history, and also provided the first ever game winning hit for Fond du Lac Community College as the Thunder recorded the school’s first ever win over Mesabi Range Community College.


In addition to on field honors Magdzas was named to the MCAC all-academic 1st team.
