In a battle of two very evenly match teams, the Esko Eskomos hosted the Hermantown Hawks Tuesday evening at Esko. Fans on both sides were treated to five very tight volleyball games. In the end, the Hermantown Hawks were able to come up with just a little bit extra and leave town with the 3-2 win.

Hermantown won the first and second games 25-18 and 26-24 respectively. Esko came back however, taking the third and fourth games by a score of 25-23 in both games to force a fifth and final match. In the final stanza, Esko fell behind by as much as five points. Yet, they would work their way back into the game, closing the gap to 12-13. The Hawks would then clamp down to secure the 15-13 game five win and the match 3-2.

Due to the fact that the contest went five games, several players recorded eye popping stats. For Esko, Keely Deadrick finished with 30 set assists and eight kills. Kayla Handevidt recorded 19 kills and 4 blocks while Janae Beaudot added 12 digs.

For the Hermantown Hawks, Andrea Ericson directed the offense with 26 sets. Samantha Kallberg led the Hawks with 18 kills and 6 ace serves. Lydia McMillan and Stephanie Thun each had 9 kills in the victory.

With the win, Hermantown is now 2-0 on the season. They face a huge early season matchup when they host Hibbing at 7:00pm on Thursday. Esko falls to 1-1 on the season and will travel to Hinkley/Finlayson to take on the Jaguars Friday at 7:30pm.
