Eskomos Win Squeaker in Aitkin By Two Points

The Eskomos of Esko and the Aitkin Gobblers battled in a tight tough contest Friday night in Aitkin and it was the Eskomos coming away with a two point 18-16 victory in a Great Polar Blue Conference match up and a section 7AAA battle.


The victory over the Gobblers assures the Eskomos of at least the number two seed and a first round bye in the section 7AAA playoffs. The Eskomos still have a shot at the number one seed in the section playoffs but it will all come down to next Wednesday’s football match-ups.


The Eskomos will host Crosby-Ironton, who comes in 6-1 on the season as well. The Eskomos and the Rangers will meet Wednesday at 6 pm in Cloquet. The section’s top seed Proctor will face Virginia and a Proctor loss and Esko win will give the Eskomos the top seed in the section.


Riley Mudek rushed 20 times Friday night for 107 yards and one touchdown in the 18-6 victory, and it was Garrett Iverson who also had a rushing touchdown for the Eskomos as they picked up their sixth win of the season.


Esko converted both two point conversion attempts, Ryan Holte caught the two point conversion from marc Peterson and it was Wyatt Begay who scored the Eskomos other two point conversion.


Begay added 78 yards rushing and 23 yards receiving on the night for the Eskomos, and it was Iverson finishing with 67 yards rushing and he had 10 yards receiving. Ryan Holte finished with three receptions for the Eskomos and he finished with 33 yards receiving.


Aaron Olson and Jared Mattson both had two receptions for the Eskomos and it was quarterback Marc Peterson who finished 10-21 passing on the night for 125 yards and one touchdown pass on the night.


Rick Johnson finished with 5 tackles on the night for Esko, and it was Riley Mudek, Justin Weeks, and Riley Schramm all chipping in with four tackles in the Eskomos win. Esko and Aitkin were tied at 8-8 at halftime and the difference being the Esko two point conversion in the fourth quarter.
