Floodwood Ends Up Three Points Ahead of Cromwell

The Floodwood Polar Bears took a firm hold on the second seed of the Section 5-9man standings on Friday night when the Polar Bears knocked off longtime rival Cromwell in a Section 5 and conference battle by a score of 24-21.


Floodwood got things going in the first quarter when Shawn Anderson scored on a 16 yard touchdown reception from Willow Christensen to put the Polar Bears in front 6-0. Cromwell tied the score in the second quarter when Joe Couture scored on a 6 yard run to tie the game at 6-6.


Cody Oak connected with Christensen on a 44 yard touchdown pass late in the second quarter as the score put the Polar Bears in front by a score of 12-6 at the break. Evan Suonvieri scored the Polar Bears third touchdown of the game to start the fourth quarter as the Polar Bear moved out in front 18-6.


Cromwell responded right back as Jared Hutar scored on a 1 yard touchdown run which cut the Polar Bears lead to 18-13 after the extra point. With Floodwood leading by five, they marched down the field and Suonvieri scored his second touchdown of the game this time a 1 yard run and Floodwood led 24-13.


With time running out on the Cardinals, Austin Pfistner connected with Hutar on a 57 yard touchdown pass, and the same duo added the two point conversion but it wasn’t enough as the Polar Bears with the conference battle at home by three points.


With the victory Friday night the Polar Bears move to 4-3 on the season and they will look to make it three straight wins in a row next Wednesday when they will face the Isle Huskies down in Isle.


Cromwell looks to rebound next week as they will face the Wrenshall Wrens on Wednesday in Cromwell. The Cardinals fall to 3-4 on the season and they will face the 1-6 Wrens, the Wrens lost Friday night 43-19 to McGregor.
