Cloquet Notches 3-0 Win Unbeaten Streak Reaches 10 Games

Cloquet’s relentless drive for the Lake Superior Conference girls soccer title continued on Monday night under the lights at Bromberg Field during parents night. The Jacks got a pair of goals from freshman sensation Kayla Baker and a couple of assists from Emily Wangen in taking a 3-0 victory over the Proctor Rails.

“It was a great game from us, with great energy,” said Cloquet coach Dustin Randall. “A win over Denfeld on Saturday would mean a share of the conference title at the very least with an undefeated conference record.”

Seven minutes into Monday’s affair it was the speedy Baker getting her team off to a good start with her first goal of the game on an assist by Wangen. The Jacks built a 2-0 lead in the 32nd minute when Maija Doran scored on another pass from Wangen giving Cloquet a nice cushion entering halftime.

The lone goal of the second half came from Baker in the 62nd minute on an assist by Emily Rikkola giving the Jacks a 3-0 lead.

Kenzie Rathe picked up the shutout in goal with four saves for the Jacks and Proctor goalie Kassie Haedtke made 10 saves for the Rails on 13 Cloquet shots. The shut-out, her seventh of the year means Rathe has notched a shut-out in half of the teams 14 games this season.


Cloquet is now 8-3-3 on the season and will play their final two games on the road. Thursday is a huge Sectional battle with Esko and Saturday is a Lake Superior Conference showdown with Duluth Denfeld.
