Hawks Tennis Continues Improving – Gets 7-0 Win Over Superior

Hermantown picked up an impressive 7-0 win over Superior in girls tennis on Thursday afternoon. The Hawks have improved their record to 6-10 on the season under first-year coach Kelly Cooke.

Madelyn Miller took her #1 singles match 6-0, 6-3 over Nicole Mattson and from that point on it was all Hawks. At #2 singles it was a 6-0, 6-1 win by Danielle Luke over Carly Webber. The wins continued at #3 and #4 with wins by Hermantown’s Bailey O’Connell and Stephanie Collins.

The onslaught continued in doubles play including a win at #1 by Anna VanDeelen and Mariah Ruhanen who won 6-2, 6-2 over Cassie Hanson and Keely McCall. At #2 doubles it was the Hermantown team of Elizabeth Carlson and Brianna Garcia-Meyers who downed Jess Engstrom and Carissa Welch 7-5, 7-6 (7-3). Finally, at #3 doubles, it was the Hawks duo of Elizabeth Heehn and Jordan Cuva who defeated Emma Buckley and Hannah Isabella 7-5, 6-1.

Next up for the Hawks is CEC on the road in Cloquet on October 1st.
