The Cloquet girls soccer team picked up a big win on Thursday. The Lumberjacks beat the Hilltoppers 3-0 for the second time this season in a Lake Superior Conference battle at Cloquet High School.

The Lumberjacks took the first lead of the game at 1-0 when Anna Fossen scored at the 16 minute mark of the first half with the assist going to Alyssa Lamirande. Cloquet made it 2-0 at the 29 minute mark when Kayla Baker scored with an assist from Emily Wangen.

“It was another solid defensive effort by us,” Head Coach Dustin Randall told Northland Sports Online. “Our defense keeps chances very limited on our own net.” Randall added “We had six players with a point tonight, and those are great contributions for our team.”

The Lumberjacks made it 3-0 in the second half when Kristi Konietzko scored the Lumberjacks third goal at the 69 minute mark. Konietzko’s goal was assisted by Becca Hammond. Kenzie Rathe added her sixth shutout of the season as she stop five shots in the victory.

“Our usual threats, Emily Rikkola and Maija Doran were held in check Thursday,” Randall added “Those other contributions were big for us. We attacked very well in our end resulting in a lot of chances and three goals to show for their hard work.”

With the win, the Lumberjacks improve to 7-3-3 and are 6-3-1 in their last 10 matches. Their last loss came to the states 7th rated team in Class A, Holy Angels back on September 1st. The Hilltoppers fall to 6-6-1 overall and fall to 1-4-1 in conference play.

Cloquet also improves to 7-0-3 in section play, and improve to 3-0-2 in conference action. Cloquet will be back in action again on Tuesday when the Jacks host Proctor at 7:00 pm, while Marshall will host Hibbing-Chisholm on Saturday morning at Marshall High School.
