After spending the last couple of years winless, the Wrenshall girls volleyball team is riding a wave of back-to-back wins this season. On Thursday night the Wrens defeated the Bug-O-Nay-Gi-Shig school 3-1 to notch their second win of the year. In 2008-2009 the Wrens won only three games, in 2009-2010 the Wrens won once, but after that, and until this season, they had not won a game. Now after just four games? They have two in the books.

After winning game one 27-25, the Wrens dropped the second game of the match to Silver Eagles 25-11, but from that point on Wrenshall reacted by pounding out a 25-20 and 25-17 to capture the 3-1 victory.

To say the Wrenshall win was a total team effort is to put it mildly. The overall team stats show that the reliance on total team play was what gave the Wrens the win. Chloe Swanson finished with 8-kills, 7-set assists and 3-digs. Tatum Swanson also was stellar with 8-ace serves, 7-kills and 3-digs. It was Kaitlyn Kelley recording 4-ace serves and 5-set assists, Shanna LaVeau added 3-ace serves and 3-kills, Ashlynn Carlson had 2-ace serves and 4-digs and Brianna Brim was strong in the service game with 100% serving. Rounding out the team effort was Brittany O’Brien with 3-digs and 3-kills.

The Wrens are under the guidance of first-year head coach Andrea Ruth who improved her record, and her teams overall record, to 2-2 on the season.
