Hermantown Girls Win Fourth Straight Soccer Game

HERMANTOWN- Hermantown Head Coach Scott Larson mentioned to Northland Sports Online Tuesday that “We have a lot of kids who have been playing together since eighth grade so it nice to see them come together.” Come together they did as the Hawks used a six goal barrage to knock off Two Harbors by a score of 6-1 at home Tuesday afternoon.


The Hawks jumped out quickly when Hailey Hoff scored the opening goal with assist to Mackenzie Herzig in the second minute. The Hawks made it 2-0 when Hoff added her second goal of the game with the assist going to Kyla Kaspszak.


The Hawks made it 3-0 when it was Morgan Robinson scored off an assist from Hoff, and it was the Hawks leading 3-0 at the break. The Hawks continued to pound away at the Agates as it was Herzig scoring at the 44 minute mark with an assist to Haley Wargin.


The Hawks went ahead 5-0 when Celine Francisco scored on an assist from Robinson. Megan Robinson added the Hawks last goal at the 75 minute mark on an unassisted goal. The Agates scored their lone goal with a minute left to play when Amanda Laine spoiled the shutout by scoring on a penalty shot.


“It was a nice win.” Coach Larson stated, “The girls are starting to come around and play together as a team.” Larson also mentioned “It’s nice to have some many home games this season as the girls don’t have to travel so much and they can concentrate on school then soccer.” Home games make up the greater part of the Hawks schedule this season with15 of the 24 regular season games played at Corey Veech Field.


With the win, the Hawks improve to 5-1 on the season as they win their fourth straight contest. The Hawks will play at home on Thursday when they will host Cloquet at 5:00 pm. The Agates fall to 0-5 on the season and they will host Eveleth Area on Thursday at home.
