Emily Neumann ran the Hermantown offense almost to perfection and the Hawks power hitters did their job as Hermantown improved to 3-0 on the local volleyball circuit by knocking off Duluth East 15-25, 25-23, 25-23 and 25-14 on Tuesday night at East High School.

After losing the first game of the match the Hawks showed their mental toughness by taking the next two games by grinding out a pair of two-point wins. Then in the fourth game the Hawks steadily pulled away from the Greyhounds.

Leading the power-punch at the net for Hermantown was Stephanie Kallberg who punished the East defense with 17 kills, while Katie Thun finished with 12 kills.

On the East side Mandy Kurosky led their attack with 16 kills and Cassie Cruschielski finished with 13 kills.

The Hawks also got seven kills from Jessica Wasbotten and Nikki Kenzie, while Kenzie also added 19 digs for Hermantown.

So far this season the Hawks have beaten Duluth Marshall and the two time defending champion Esko Eskomos to go with Tuesday’s win over Class AAA Duluth East. The road doesn’t get any easier for the Hawks who host another Class AAA team in the Grand Rapids Thunderhawks on Thursday night.
