PROCTOR- Tuesday afternoon saw the Proctor Rails pick up their first win of the season as the Rails shut out the Two Harbors Agates by a score of 5-0 at Terry Egerdahl field in Proctor. The Rails used pressure up and down the field Tuesday as they held the Agates to only three shots on net.

Rails Head Coach Jessie Smith told Northland Sports Online “it wasn’t the best game we played, but it was nice to get the win at home today.” Smith mentioned “We need to continue to get better and today even though we won; it showed us some areas we can still work on.”

The Rails jumped out in front at the 5:06 mark when Cade Hella scored on a goal from Jake Kuno. Hella picked up an assist later in the first half when it was Parker Strongitharm scoring the second goal at the 14:01 mark.

The second half started with the Rails quickly adding to their two goal lead when Aaron Opoien scored at 44:24 to make it 3-0. The assist on the Opoien goal went to Kuno. Taylor Ringdahl made it 4-0 when he scored at 55:08 to make it 4-0. Andrew Hendrickson had the assist for the Rails.

The Rails closed out the scoring at the 72:25 mark of the second half when it was Wyatt Lindberg scoring an unassisted goal to make the Rails final margin of victory at 5-0.

Grant Anderson finished with 12 saves for the Agates while it was Jake Mercier stopping all three shots to pick up the shutout for Proctor.

Brett Pinney of the Rails, who led Proctor with four shots on net had a goal disallowed at the buzzer of the second half when it was determined that time had expired on the Rails as his shot on net rolled in, but was just a fraction of a second too late.

The Rails move to 1-1-1 on the season overall, and they are back in action on Thursday when they will host Superior in a Lake Superior Conference match-up. The Agates fall to 0-5 and they are in action again on Thursday as part of a boys and girls double header with Eveleth-Gilbert Area.
