CEC Girls Tennis Splits In Duluth Doubleheader

The Cloquet –Esko-Carlton girls tennis team faced both Duluth East and Duluth Denfeld in a doubleheader on Monday. In a loss to Duluth East, they did not win a match but had better luck against Duluth Denfeld, hammering out a 5-2 win.


Leading the charge for the Jacks against Denfeld were the doubles pairs which won all three matches versus the Hunters. At #1 doubles the CEC duo of Breanne Baker and Alyssa Acheson downed their opponents 6-2, 6-2. The pair of Katrina Smith and Abby Wangen took their #2 doubles match when their opponents withdrew and Joanna Harms and Lora Chalich of CEC won at #3 doubles 6-1, 6-3 over their opponents.


In singles the Jacks #3 player, Rachel Collier, picked up a 6-4, 3-0 decision over Mya Peterson when Peterson had to withdraw in the second set. At #4 singles it was Rosalie Lundquist defeating Ella Ekabond 6-1, 6-1. CEC’s #1 player, Reilly Kedrowski dropped a 6-1, 6-1 match to Paige Schuller and at #2 it was Katelyn Litke lost 6-3, 6-4 match to Olivia Kiniger.


Against Duluth East the Jacks closest chances for a victory came at #2 doubles when Smith and Wangen fell 6-7, 6-1, 12-10 to Noelle Berkelman and Hannah Koch and at #3 when Lundquist and Courtney Ketola lost 7-6, 3-6, 10-5 to Elise Venskoy and Britta Nechaugen. The Jacks also lost at #1 doubles when Acheson and Kedrowski fell 6-3, 6-2.


In singles play the Jacks were unable to pick up any wins. At #1 it was Baker losing 6-0, 6-0 to Caroline Skinner. Litke lost at #2 singles to Ann Heyer 6-0, 6-0. Collier fell at #3 singles to Bryanne Hauer and at #4 singles it was Chalich losing 6-3, 6-1 to Jose Humphries.
