The Esko-Carlton girls soccer team opened their season with a split in their first two games last week. On Thursday the Eskomos downed Proctor 2-0 and on Friday they fell to St. Paul Academy 5-1.

Elle Emanuel hammered home two goals to lead Esko to the win over Proctor on Thursday. Emanuel’s first goal was scored off a pass from Kadee Karkkainen in the 27th minute as Esko built a 1-0 halftime edge. The second goal from Emanuel was scored in the 65th minute on a long ball by Tori Zime.

The Eskomos pumped 17 shots on Proctor goalie Kassie Headtke who finished with 15 saves, while Esko netminder DeAhna Kulas made 2-saves to preserve the shutout.

On Friday the Eskomos dropped a 5-1 decision to St. Paul Academy as the Academies Molly Fielder rammed home three goals in the second half and another second half tally came from Catherine Reilly to pull away from a 1-1 halftime tie.

Esko-Carlton got the first goal of the game when Karkkainen knocked in a header off a corner kick from Hillary Anderson in just the second minute for a 1-0 edge. However, in the 14th minute St. Paul Academy tied the game setting the stage for Fielders second half performance.

E/C is 1-1 on the season and will travel to Cloquet to take on the Rival Lumberjacks on Tuesday at 4:30pm
